Have you ever used Heat Transfer Vinyl? Since receiving my Silhouette Cameo, Heat Transfer Vinyl was almost daunting to me. I finally got enough courage to try my hand at creating my own Customizable pillows, t-shirts — and actually everything!
But first, a pillow! I figured a pillow was a super easy way to start. You will notice that in my first few pictures, I used black vinyl, and then the final product is pink. Well, that’s because I messed up and I’ll explain all about that later. #diyfail
Customizable Pillows With Heat Transfer Vinyl
Here’s what you’ll need to make Customizable Pillows:
- Heat Transfer Vinyl
- Pillow Cover
- Iron
- Extra cloth or T-shirt
- Silhouette Cameo or mad scissor skills
To start, figure out your design and reverse it. Then, put the shiny side down on your cutting mat and begin cutting so that it cuts, but doesn’t cut the entire way through.
Then, you’ll peel the two layers in the vinyl apart. If you did it right (hint, this is where I messed up), the words will be sticking to the clear layer.
Next, place the vinyl onto your pillow (you can keep the clear layer there for now), and put a cloth on top. With your vinyl on the hottest setting, iron over it for about 60 seconds or until the vinyl sticks.
And – that’s it! I don’t know why it took me so long to do this. In fact, it’s super simple and would be a perfect gift as a housewarming gift for a newlywed. The options are truly endless with Heat Transfer Vinyl. What would you make?
Be sure to hop over to my friends who are also sharing their fun ideas, too!
