I may have mentioned it before, but #ihavethisthingwithwoodgrain – Okay, that wasn’t a real hashtag until now. (similar to: #ihavethisthingwithfloors) in case you’re lost. Anyways, I think woodgrain is one of the most beautiful things in the world. I don’t paint furniture unless it’s no longer redeemable — call me crazy.
When I walked into the thrift store, I saw this beautiful, handmade wooden bowl. It was calling my name — and for only $1.49, I wasn’t going to argue! My husband was with me and reminded me that we have been needing a catch-all next to the door for quite some time now! We have a bad habit of emptying our pockets at the back door all over our desk. oops.
Anyways, I knew I had to add a pop of color to this beauty without ruining the charm of the beautiful color and grain. With no plan in mind, I used my trusty washi tape to tape stripes on only one side of the bowl. I decided I wanted to use three colors (I usually don’t use an even amount of anything, it’s the rule of design), and chose white, aqua, and gold. I didn’t have any metallic gold paint, so instead I used a gold sharpie like I did with my geometric coasters.
I added a couple coats of each color I wanted, then let it dry.
Then, I carefully peeled the washi tape off, and viola!
What’s your recent thrift store transformation?
