Frozen Hot Chocolate might sound like an oxymoron, but in reality it’s almost how hot chocolate was intended to be consumed! When I was young, my mom brought home a packed of Frozen Hot Chocolate from Serendipity’s – and oh my soul, I was hooked. For years I looked for the same packet but never found it. Until probably 10 years later when I decided I could totally make it myself! It was delicious.
With the new unicorn-everything trend, I figured I needed to find a way to get my hot chocolate pink — and with the help of some white chocolate, I did just that!
Unicorn Frozen Hot Chocolate
3 oz. White Chocolate Chips
1 tablespoon White Hot Chocolate Mix
1 1/2 c. Milk
2-3 c. Ice
Toppings: Sprinkles, Marshmallows, Cotton Candy — anything colorful!
Your favorite unicorn-worthy glass
Metal Drinking Straws
First, melt your chocolate in a double broiler over the stove on medium heat. Stir occasionally, because if you’ve ever had burnt chocolate – ick. Once it’s melted, add the white hot chocolate powder and stir until blended. Add your food coloring, stir until combined. Remove from heat and slowly add about 1/2 c. of the milk and stir until smooth. Cool to room temp.
In a blender, place remaining cup of milk, ice and the chocolate mixture. I like to start with a smaller amount of ice so I can get it exactly to the consistency I want. Blend on high speed, and then pour into a giant unicorn-worthy glass.
Top with plenty of whipped cream, cotton candy, sprinkles, marshmallows…. the list could go on forever! If you’re unsure how how to put it all together, be sure to check out this tutorial on how to put together a freakshake!
This magical drink is sure to please a crowd and is the perfect summer night drink to relax with on the back patio.
