For awhile now, my husband and I have been on the lookout for a new dog leash for Presley, our Great Dane! We’ve had her since she was a puppy, and we volunteer with a rescue and are currently fostering another Great Dane, Yogi! I’ve started to get pretty impatient because the only leash we have for her is the training leash from obedience school. We went to Target to take a look to see if they had anything new. I couldn’t find one I loved, but I did find a plain, leather leash! I decided a leash for our pup was worth a fancy-schmancy DIY – and I could make exactly what I wanted!
As soon as we got home, I got started making the new leash! First, I punched out a couple of circles in cardstock and cut them in half. I traced them onto the leash for a scalloped look, then painted them with Americana Chalky Finish that I had on hand. For a final finish, I traced the trim of the scallops in gold sharpie.
I personally love how it turned out! We’re always out walking and socializing our dogs because it’s so important for dogs to get exercised, socialized, and well-fed!
When we were at Target, we also picked up a package of Purina Beyond Snacks – White Meat Chicken Cutlet. We were immediately drawn to the package because the first ingredient is chicken, they’re made in the USA, they’re grain free, have no artificial colors, flavors, or preservatives – and there is only three ingredients! I also loved that we were able to find such healthy treats at Target! We picked up the biggest bag they had, 9 ounces, which is perfect for us because of our giant dogs! I also looked them up on the Target Cartwheel app, and they’re 10% off until 10/31!
The dogs really love these treats – when I opened the bag, they did their tricks before I even had a chance to ask them to! I even got them to stay for a long time so I could catch this cute photo:
Any opportunity we get, we’re sitting at a patio or walking a street festival with one of our gentle giants! They’re well fed and treated – which makes for happy dogs. Thankfully, the fall brought cooler air and perfect weather, and we’ll be spending much more time outside with this cutie.
How do you like to spend time with your dogs? Don’t forget to send me a picture of your sweet pups on instagram!
