Air Dry Clay – Hair Clip DIY

Hair Clip DIY

Have you ever used Air Dry Clay? It’s one of my favorite craft items because it reminds me quite a bit of play-doh! It’s easily moldable and you don’t have to worry about burning it in the oven like other clays.

The girls of Create and Share Challenge invited me to be a part of their monthly challenge, and this month  was the craft item to be the staple of our project! I saw a fun ring in Delineate Your Dwellings post, “12 Air Dry Clay Projects that will Inspire You” – and figured an accessory was exactly what I needed to make with clay. I decided that making a hair clip was something I both needed and would be fun and simple to make!

HAIR CLIP DIY – AIR DRY CLAY

  • Air Dry Clay
  • Paint
  • Alligator Clips
  • Small Shape Cutters
  • Hot Glue or E6000

To start, roll out your clay until it’s about 1/8″ thick. Be sure the clay is mostly even so you don’t have wonky shapes later on. Then, just like you’re making sugar cookies, cut out shapes with your cutters. Remove the extra and place in an air-tight bag. Let your shapes dry for a couple of hours until hard. (I let mine dry overnight).

Once they are dry, use your favorite colors of paint to paint your shapes. I used an ombre effect with mint paint.

Then, use hot glue or E6000 to attach your clay pieces to the alligator clip.
